Judge the room in its event configuration
An empty ballroom and a room arranged for dinner offer very different sightlines. Ask to understand the intended table layout, the performance position and any columns or doors that affect attention. A visually dramatic room may still place some guests far from the focal point. Before favouring a larger ensemble, consider whether the audience can comfortably see and engage with the performance from the seats they will actually occupy.
Decide how service should relate to listening
A musical centerpiece can coincide awkwardly with plates being cleared or staff moving between tables. Rather than assuming all service must stop, discuss which moments need stillness and which can accommodate movement. A short, clearly identified listening passage may suit the dinner better than an extended interruption. The planner and hotel contact can help clarify the operational implications before a preferred artistic idea becomes embedded in the running order.
Ask about the hotel beyond your room
Nearby bedrooms, shared foyers and other events may affect the proposed timing and use of space. Confirm relevant sound limits, access arrangements and ending times with the hotel team instead of inferring them from a brochure. Requirements vary between properties and event spaces. A private reception room does not necessarily imply exclusive use of every surrounding area, so consider how arriving guests will recognise and enter the wedding’s musical moment.
Keep responsibilities explicit
SPS shapes repertoire, ensemble and artistic direction and coordinates the show with planners and venue teams. That role should not be interpreted as a claim to provide equipment or to have a partnership with the proposed hotel. Tal Vaknin is a performing artist whose availability should not be assumed. In an enquiry, describe the room, audience and listening objective, then identify which practical questions need answers from the relevant hotel or event contacts.
Before you enquire
- Review sightlines using the proposed dinner layout rather than an empty-room photograph.
- Discuss which musical passages need quieter service conditions.
- Confirm property-specific restrictions and the responsible hotel contact.
