Clarify the proposed operating scenario
Ask whether the performance is being considered while berthed, at anchor, or underway. These are different scenarios and should not share an unexamined plan. The captain and responsible vessel team must determine what is permissible and practical. Confirm access arrangements and the proposed performance area through them. Do not assume that an attractive deck space is suitable simply because guests can gather there for drinks or photographs.
Keep guest movement part of the concept
Consider how guests reach the listening area, where they remain during the performance, and how crew circulation stays unobstructed. A concentrated audience should not create a conflict with the vessel’s working routes. Discuss seating and standing expectations with the responsible team. Any technical needs, placement questions, or limitations require their own assessment; an artistic proposal should not be mistaken for confirmation that the setting can accommodate it.
Build an adaptable musical shape
Favor a coherent sequence that can be adjusted at agreed boundaries rather than a concept dependent on one uninterrupted stretch. Establish who communicates a pause or a change if operational circumstances require it. SPS shapes repertoire, ensemble, and artistic direction and coordinates the show with planners and venue teams. Tal Vaknin is the performing artist. Onboard decisions remain subject to the authority and instructions of the vessel’s responsible personnel.
Agree discretion before departure
Discuss guest photography, filming, publication, and the sharing of location details before the evening. Private attendance does not automatically mean everyone has the same expectations about images. Name one host contact for personal requests so that the artist does not receive competing instructions from several guests. If conditions require a different plan, prioritize an orderly decision over preserving a dramatic reveal that no longer fits the circumstances.
Before you enquire
- Specify whether the proposal concerns a berthed, anchored, or moving vessel.
- Obtain the responsible vessel team’s assessment of access and circulation.
- Agree change signals, guest requests, and image-sharing boundaries.
